Ropes & Plaid

Happy Tuesday! Only 2 days til the weekend (today doesn't count and Friday doesn't count - logical math)!

This weekend I had my first Dave & Busters experience, and let me tell you, it is nothing like Laguna Beach made it seem like. You know the episode, where Kristin and Jessica make Alex H. get a random balding guys number and they look totally cool just having a casual girls night at 17 years old. Well, in reality, it's mostly screaming children. It was still fun, and I am the reigning basketball shootout champion, so all is well in the world.

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen a little preview of this outfit. I was getting ready one morning last week, throwing clothes all around my room, happy with absolutely nothing in my closet. Until I threw this Banana Republic sweater and plaid button down next to each other and I had my morning epiphany - the two obviously needed to be worn together. I used to LOVE the sweater layer trend. In high school, this was my go to outfit - a cable knit sweater (probably from the Gap), usually paired with two polos and... I'm seriously cringing as I write this... two intentionally popped collars. (Ouch. That was rough.) Anyway, put on some booties and voila! I threw on my utility jacket and was off to work.

P.S. My hair had started out straight the morning these pictures were taken...

And just for good measure....

Friday Five

Alright, I'll be the first to admit it, I've been slacking. I don't even have a good excuse, other than that it was awfully dreary all week which forced me to be very tired and unproductive. But, have no fear, I have a post scheduled for the beginning of next week and plan on taking some pictures this weekend. So be on the lookout for a comeback in full force.

Last night, we had our annual work dodgeball tournament, which was a ton of fun, as always. Nothing like a little dodgeball to get some aggression out :) We didn't win, but team Snoop Dodgey Dodge (team name thanks to yours truly) had fun. Per usual, I cannot wait for the weekend, most of which will be spent trying to think of the winning costume for our work Halloween contest. Any and all ideas welcome!

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like I haven't had a good fall wardrobe redo in a long time. It's been a real struggle getting ready in the mornings with these colder temperatures. The fact that I usually refuse to believe it's actually getting cold out and therefore don't buy appropriate clothing, may contribute to that problem just a little. Today's Friday Five will be dedicated to my fall wishlist, some of which will be arriving on my doorstep shortly!

J.Crew Pea Coat. All throughout my college glory days, coats were a huge necessity in the arctic temperatures and wind tunnels of Storrs, CT. But more times than not, we would (stupidly) brave the cold in minimal clothing in hopes of not ruining your beloved coat - usually some type of North Face - or forgetting it at the bar (obviously out of excitement to go to bed and wake up for class in the morning). For the record, while I do have still have my (now ratty) North Face, I also have some battered and well loved winter pea coats. This year it's time to clean out and revamp my collection, and I'm thinking of starting with this beauty. Here's hoping my linebacker shoulders will fit into it!

Tommy Hilfiger Boots. I literally wore holes through my old cognac tall winter boots (which I loved so much and are no longer made). I've always loved the two-toned color block boots and when I found these on 6pm.com for 50% off I was immediately sold. I know I will absolutely get my money's worth out of these and will have them for a few seasons. Can't go wrong with a classic brown boot.

Old Navy Smoking Slippers.  I went into Old Navy the other day just to look around and get out of the office during lunch, actually not anticipating any purchases... until I saw these smoking slippers. Not only did the red and embroidered tassels catch my eye, but so did the bright orange clearance sticker. Score! P.S. They are having their 20th Birthday Sale and have some great fall staples for even better prices. Check it out! I spotted this great dark royal blue bag that I know I will be eyeing for a while. It's not online yet, but I'll keep be on the lookout for you guys.

Plaid Scarf. Call me basic, but I'm loving the plaid trend this fall. I also happen to love oversized scarves. Put the two together, and I'm apparently overjoyed with love. I've been seeing these scarves around fellow bloggers' necks and recently found out they sell them at Target! I need to get there soon and pick one up before they are sold out. This one just screams "holiday season" to me.

Wrap Bracelet. BaubleBar does it again. I am seriously lacking in the bracelet department and this little guy was their $10 special last week. $10 + free shipping. It would be silly to not indulge. Right?

Do you have any fall staples in your closet? Have a great weekend!

Friday Five

Happy Friday, loves! This week has flown by and I can't believe we're half way through October already! It sure looks like fall here in Connecticut, but we've had a freakishly warm (and humid!) week. My wardrobe has been very confused, but I'll take any last bit of summer I can get!

Here's what I'm loving this week:

#PimpinJoy. This may sound funny to a lot of you, but if you're a listener of the Bobby Bones Show, you know what I'm talking about. A little background for those of you a little confused about who's pimpin' what: Amy's (one of the show's hosts) mom, Judy, was diagnosed with cancer and decided to not let it get her spirits down and instead would choose joy. Judy then made a twitter account under the name of JudyBePimpinJoy, and the rest is history. She used something bad to encourage everyone to do something nice for someone and to always choose joy. We recently found out on the show that Amy's mom has received all the treatment she can get, and is living out the last few months with her family (I would be lying to say I didn't cry listening to this segment). As the Bobby Bones Show always encourages, I also encourage each of you to "pimp joy" this weekend, in honor of Judy. I was lucky enough to sit in on the show a couple of years ago and Amy and the rest of the team could not be any sweeter.

Cowlneck Sweatshirt. I've been eyeing this sweatshirt for weeks now, but can never justify $50 for a sweatshirt. Yesterday, as I was just about to leave Kohl's (empty-handed, might I add), I spotted this and immediately thought of the Mindy Mae's one, and for only $20, I couldn't pass it up. I know I will live in it once it really starts to cool down.

NYX Primer. I heard about this on another morning show I listen to (I have a long commute....), the Elvis Duran Show, during their "What's Trending" segment. I used to use a primer in my daily makeup routine and eventually ran out and never replenished my stock. Well, this is it ladies. I'm obsessed with this primer and forgot how much better your makeup goes on with it. And, it's super affordable. I got mine at Ulta (they always have coupons - use them!!), but other makeup stores will carry it as well.

The Courtney Bib. We all know my love for Baublebar by now, and I look at this necklace seriously every time I'm on the site (just to give you an idea, it's frequent). I probably should have just gone ahead and bought it during their friends and family sale this week, but I didn't. So, Santa, if you're reading this... hint hint.

Bria Skirt. This past week I wore a skirt from Club Monaco and decided to browse their website to see what needs to be added to my wishlist. Well, it didn't take long to spot this and drool over it. I'm imagining it on NYE with a great pair of statement heels. The Club Monaco outlet by me is absolutely killer, so I'm hoping this skirt may end up there. Until then, I will just sit and admire it.

Hope you all have a great weekend! Are you doing anything fun? And, as always, thanks for reading!

Pleather Skirt

Well, I knew it would be sooner rather than later that I dedicated a post to some faux leather that lives in my closet. I'm not going to lie, I was inspired by one of my favorite bloggers, Sydney, over at Summer Wind, who posted this outfit a few weeks ago. I wear my (p)leather skirt all the time once the colder weather rolls around, so when I saw this outfit inspo and realized I had everything in my closet already, I tried it practically the next day. Cashmere and leather? Sold.

This is a great outfit to wear flats with at work and then throw on some heels for happy hour (I'll pretend like that's what I did, but really I took my shoes off and bummed a homemade meal off my parents after work...)

The wind was out of control while I was taking these photos, so I apologize for the lack of flattering shots. There's a high possibility someone got a little show during this photoshoot, if you know what I mean. I'm also so mad I forgot to take my hair band off my wrist for these, so please disregard :)

Outfit Details | Sweater: Ann Taylor Factory Store (old), similar here | Skirt: T.J. Maxx, loving this | Necklace: Macy's (old), loving this | Watch & Bracelet: Kate Spade | Flats: Express (old) | Heels: Target, similar here

In other news, I spent the weekend relaxing, spending time with friends and watching my friend kick butt in her first marathon, but missed all the Columbus Day sales! My bank account thanks me, but I'm going to have to take advantage of some of these "extended sales". Did anyone find anything good?!

Friday Five

Look who showed up again.. Friday!

After this week, there may be a driving ban on me for a while. Between a cranky woman who clearly didn't like people getting lost on the "private road" she lived on (if her neighbors are anything like her, I can actually believe they never have visitors on the street - sorry lady, I'll never make a wrong turn again in my life), an extremely entitled runner and a few "let me walk and text in the middle of the road completely oblivious to anything going on around me" people, I'm ready to put away my keys for a while. Okay, end rant.

Besides getting enraged while driving this week, I've actually been such in a great mood. I feel like I've laughed my way through the entire week, and for anyone who knows me, this usually means laughing induced tears. I don't know why, but I don't mind! Any week you've laughed so hard you cry multiple times is a good week in my book. I also got together two old friends last night, and had such a great time. A bunch of laughs, great conversation and some old friends is quite possibly the best Thursday night (or any night!) activity.

Anyway, I can't wait for the weekend to begin! Weird, I never say that! Tomorrow, one of my very best friends is running her first marathon and my college roommate and I are going to cheer her on. I'm not really sure how you "watch" someone run a marathon, but all I know is I plan on meeting her at the finish line with a beer. And maybe a donut or something.

Now, drumroll please.... this week's Friday Five:

James Marsden. I fell in love with James Marsden in 27 Dresses (Benny and the Jets, anyone?) and when I found this video of him singing "Friends in Low Places" with Lady Antebellum on Ryan Seacrest's radio show, well my heart almost exploded. Pretty much all my favorite things combined! And boy, he can sing! Watch below for instant happiness.

Baby Shane. If you've been on the internet or watched the news at all in the past month or so, you've definitely heard of  Shane and his amazing parents. If you haven't, here's a quick overview: this adorable couple found out that their unborn baby has a rare disease that would cause him die shortly after being born. With the news, the couple made a bucket list of things to do before Shane was born, while they still had time with him. They never complained, but instead made the best out of a terrible situation, and you can do nothing but look up to them for that. It really stops to make you think and put things into perspective. Driving problems? Those seem like pretty good problems to have.

Utility Jackets. I had been coveting hunter green utility jackets since last year, but couldn't find one that I liked for a decent price. I finally found the perfect one at T.J. Maxx at the end of the summer and have been wearing it all the time this fall and getting so many compliments on it! It's great to pull a whole outfit together, stay warm and look trendy all at the same time. I'm loving this, this (on sale!) and this

Revenge. So, I'm a few years late to the game on this show, but I started watching it on Netflix and am totally hooked. However, on a scale of 1 to Pretty Little Liars, the show is around a 9 on how realistic it is. And how/why so many people just walk into houses on this show is beyond me, but it's still addicting. And an added bonus, Joshua Brown, aka Daniel, is pretty easy on the eyes. I'd definitely put it on your Netflix queue for the upcoming winter months.

This Proposal. I'm a sucker for a good proposal story or video. Apparently, NBC has a new show coming out called Marry Me and their digital team put this video together for a lucky couple. I think my favorite part may actually be the last minute, after the proposal even happens. Just watch.

Are you doing anything fun this weekend! Hope it's a great one!

Shirt Dress

Happy hump day! Wednesday also means the day after one of my favorite shows airs, Chicago Fire (hello Jesse Spencer and Taylor Kinney). To avoid any spoiler alerts, all I will say is oh.my.god. Those writers sure know how to get a girl's heart race up at 11 pm.

This shirt dress (is that even the real name?) was part of my mini T.J. Maxx shopping spree last week. I've been looking for one since the summer but they always seem to be see-through. When I saw this Cloth & Stone (this brand can be found at Anthropologie) shirt dress at TJ's last week, it was love at first sight. It is so comfortable but still makes you pulled together. It was perfect for running errands around town on the weekend. And a special shoutout to the lovely ladies of Ulta who made me feel like a supermodel giving me so many compliments on this look.

I love wearing dresses and hate tights, posing quite a little problem for the colder weather that's quickly approaching. I loved that this dress was a dark neutral for fall, but I can still wear it without tights. I added in a little pop of color with my earrings because I'm just not ready to give up neon season. Also, the gold necklace I'm wearing was my bonus necklace Baublebar sent me I talked about last week

And a squinty-eyed and coffee shot for good measure

Have you given the shirt dress trend a try?
